I just realized that we are (society is) entering a manic phase. If you’ve ever read or heard of ‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds,’ you’ll know that widespread communal delusion is common in the human animal. Except this is no Dutch Tulip Craze affecting just Europe–this mania is now global. We are entering a period similar to 1930s Europe. People are panicking. They sense the old order crumbling, and know their environment is degrading in ways that seem beyond their control. So they’re freaking out in myriad ways–most recently, politically. The problem is that we know the old order is leaving us, but we can’t see the new order clearly yet. So we backtrack, and wring our hands. We hide in the dark. And we blame. We already know none of those things solves our problem — It just delays the inevitable. This is what delusion is: delay. There is only one solution to this problem: we need a new, compelling vision that motivates us to move forward . We need hope.
