I like to avoid calling it literal or metaphorical, because I think when we’re talking about transcendental ideas we’re being as literal as we can be with the limits of immanent language. Atheism (in current usage) = disbelief in a creator God or other type of supernatural god.
Scientific pantheism does not believe in those things. Ergo it is compatible with atheism – ie you can be an atheist and also a scientific pantheist.
